Barrelproof supported the Chess, Drinks & Music activation for the fourth time, contributing to its ongoing success with a fresh and creative cocktail offering. We developed and produced a custom menu tailored to the event’s laidback, community-driven atmosphere — featuring four themed serves, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, using spirits from existing stock.

In addition to concept development, our team handled the full cocktail production and on-site service. A relaxed, low-pressure event that continues to offer strong community engagement and valuable exposure for the Barrelproof brand.

What we've been asked to do

For this recurring activation at the creative hangout De Maaskantine, Barrelproof was asked to design and deliver a cocktail experience that matched the character of the event: casual, smart, and slightly unconventional — much like a great game of chess.

The brief? Create a cocktail menu inspired by the world of chess. Bold moves, clever twists, and layered compositions — all brought to life in the glass. The drinks had to speak to both the setting and the audience: relaxed, curious, and community-driven.

We incorporated spirits from partner brands in our portfolio, giving new energy to existing stock and showcasing how flexibility and storytelling can coexist behind the bar. With creative naming and thoughtful flavour pairings, each serve became a talking point — even for those who never picked up a chess piece.

The end result

The cocktails turned out to be more than just a side note — we ended up serving more drinks than expected, with many guests opting for our low-ABV and non-alcoholic serves to keep their minds sharp for the next move. The themed menu, playful presentation, and relaxed service style were a perfect match for the event’s atmosphere.

The activation was not only a hit with guests, but also with the organisers — so much so that Barrelproof will be supporting future Chess events at various locations across Rotterdam. A simple idea, executed with precision and flavour. Just how we like it.
